The Edmonton Oilers have signed David Tomasek, the 2024-25 Swedish Hockey League scoring leader, to a one-year, $1.2 million contract for the 2025-26 season. This announcement comes after the team’s earlier signing of German DEL forward Josh Samanski on Wednesday.
Tomasek arrives in Edmonton following two impressive seasons with Färjestad BK, where he led the SHL in points (57) and assists (33) during the 2023-24 campaign. The 29-year-old has also played in the KHL, Liiga, and Czech Extraliga, winning gold with Czechia at the 2024 IIHF World Championship. Additionally, he has experience in junior hockey from his time in the OHL.
Tomasek claimed the SHL scoring title with 24 goals and 33 assists (57 points) in 47 games for Färjestad BK. Over the past two seasons, he tallied 49 goals and 53 assists, totaling 102 points in 99 games for the club.

With Tomasek now under contract, the Oilers have 11 forwards on one-way deals and no restricted free agents remaining up front. After re-signing Evan Bouchard, their limited cap space will likely prevent them from making significant moves in free agency, which is why they are focusing on college and European signings.
The Oilers are counting on some of these newly signed prospects, along with near-NHL-ready forwards like Matthew Savoie, to compete for roster spots.
