After spending the 2024 season with the Houston Texans, former Denver Broncos starting quarterback Case Keenum has signed with a new team. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Keenum is joining the Chicago Bears on a one-year deal worth up to $3 million. The veteran quarterback is expected to play a mentorship role, this time helping guide top prospect Caleb Williams—similar to how he supported C.J. Stroud in Houston.
Case Keenum is entering his 12th NFL season and brings a wealth of experience to the Chicago Bears’ quarterback room. Despite going undrafted in 2012, Keenum has built a respected career, known especially for his leadership and mentorship. After initially signing with the Houston Texans, he spent just two seasons there before embarking on a journeyman path that saw him play for the Rams, Vikings, Broncos, Commanders, Browns, and Bills before returning to Houston in 2024.
Throughout his career, Keenum has started 66 games, with 47 of those starts coming between 2016 and 2019. His standout season came in 2017 with the Minnesota Vikings, when he threw for 3,547 yards, 22 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions. That performance earned him a two-year, $36 million deal with the Denver Broncos, where he posted 3,890 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in 2018.
Last season in Houston, Keenum played a limited role behind rookie standout C.J. Stroud, appearing in two games and completing 34 of 53 passes for 291 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. Having mentored Stroud, the 2023 No. 2 overall pick, Keenum is now expected to take on a similar role with Caleb Williams, the 2024 No. 1 overall pick, as he joins the Bears on a one-year deal.
