Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game reports that catcher Sean Murphy may be returning from his injury shortly.
McAuley wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Sean Murphy is set to catch nine innings for Gwinnett on Sunday and might be activated from the IL in time for the #Braves’ series opener against the Phillies on Tuesday.”
Murphy, currently recovering from a rib injury, is considered one of the top catchers in MLB. However, he’s not the only player who might be rejoining the team in the near future.
Star pitcher Spencer Strider has been making positive progress. Meanwhile, Ronald Acuña Jr. is still sidelined with an injury, but his return could be on the horizon as well.
In short, despite a rough start to the season, there’s still plenty of hope for this Braves team.
Braves could use Sean Murphy boost
Murphy, 30, joined the Braves in 2023 after a stint with the Athletics. He earned his first All-Star selection during the ’23 season, marking a strong debut in Atlanta.
While his performance in 2024 was disappointing, he was limited to just 72 games. If Murphy can return and stay healthy, there’s potential for him to regain his form and bounce back in 2025. Right now, his main focus is on getting back on the field as quickly as possible.
He would be an important addition before the series against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies are currently leading the National League East and appear to be serious championship contenders, making them a tough challenge for the struggling Braves.
