Report Says; Aaron Rodgers Could Sign To A New Team After Making The Steelers Wait

The New Orleans Saints appear to be exploring the possibility of pursuing Aaron Rodgers, potentially adding him to their quarterback roster. Despite a visit to Pittsburgh in March, Rodgers has kept the Steelers waiting. With Derek Carr now dealing with a shoulder injury, the Saints could present Rodgers with another option, aside from retirement, waiting around, or heading to Pittsburgh.

The Saints, currently ranked No. 9 overall in the draft, could look to address the quarterback position in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, with Derek Carr, a four-time Pro Bowler, now dealing with an injury, bringing in Aaron Rodgers at least has to be considered as an option. His experience and ability to elevate a team would make him a strong potential addition to New Orleans.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network suggests that the Saints could potentially consider signing Aaron Rodgers while the Steelers continue to wait. However, he notes that there is nothing concrete at this time, and it’s still uncertain whether New Orleans will make a move for Rodgers.

Ian Rapoport shared his thoughts with Saints reporter Nick Underhill, stating, “Pittsburgh, I think, is a better team. I would imagine the Saints would look at him. I would imagine, I don’t really know, but then I also think, how willing would Rodgers be to go there knowing how the roster is? Which is, I don’t think, in a bad place, but not where the Steelers are, so it’s at least something to consider.” Essentially, while the Saints could be a potential option, Rapoport believes Rodgers might hesitate given the current state of the New Orleans roster compared to the Steelers.

The Saints are not necessarily built for a “win-now” approach. With a new coaching staff under head coach Kellen Moore, the former offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans is likely in the process of rebuilding and reshaping their roster, which could be a factor in Rodgers’ decision-making.

Aaron Rodgers’ preference for his next team remains unclear. While he has visited the Pittsburgh Steelers’ facility and even organized a workout with DK Metcalf, there is still no definitive timeline for his decision. Despite the Steelers having contract parameters in place, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Rodgers has yet to make a choice.

The Steelers currently have Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson under contract, but with the extensive work they’ve put into evaluating the NFL Draft’s quarterback class, it seems likely they will select a quarterback at some point. Whether they take one in the first round or later, the team is preparing for a potential future at the position beyond their current options.
