Major Breaking: Packers Strengthens Depth With The Resigning Of Their Veteran Key Player

Interesting move by Green Bay — re-signing John FitzPatrick definitely helps with depth, but it doesn’t really move the needle in terms of addressing their biggest needs.

FitzPatrick is mostly known for his blocking ability, going back to his time at Georgia. He’s not likely to be a major pass-catching threat, so this looks more like a depth or scheme-specific signing rather than a solution to their offensive concerns. Still, solid TE depth can be key for two-tight end sets, especially with a young quarterback like Jordan Love continuing to settle in.

That said, fans are definitely still waiting on a splash move — either a legit WR1 or another pass rusher to take some pressure off Rashan Gary. Think they’ll make a move before or during the draft?

Yeah, FitzPatrick’s story is definitely more about potential and role-player value than production at this point — two receptions total over two seasons isn’t much, but Green Bay clearly sees something in his blocking or special teams contributions. Given Matt LaFleur’s emphasis on versatility and run-blocking in his offensive scheme, FitzPatrick might be sticking around more as a situational asset than a go-to target.

As for the Packers — that 11-6 season was solid, but considering the hype around Jordan Love’s development and how young and talented their roster is, expectations were understandably higher. Losing to the eventual Super Bowl champs does sting a bit less, but this team definitely looks like it’s a piece or two away from making a serious run.

Do you think they go offense-heavy in the draft again, or shift focus to defense this time around?
