According to Jay Drew of Deseret Sports, the Pittsburgh Steelers are signing BYU defensive lineman Blake Mangelson as an undrafted free agent.
Originally, Mangelson had planned to attend the Minnesota Vikings’ rookie minicamp on a tryout, but he has opted to join the Steelers instead.
Mangelson spent his entire college career at BYU, with his standout season coming in 2024. That year, he recorded two sacks, an interception, six tackles for loss, and a total of 37 tackles.
Known primarily for his strength against the run, Mangelson also showed skill at deflecting passes at the line of scrimmage.

At the Big 12 Pro Day, he measured 6’5″ and 279 pounds—considered a “tweener” build. While he projects as a 5-technique defensive lineman, he may also have potential to play standing up on the edge.
His Pro Day numbers included a 5.01-second 40-yard dash with a 1.70-second 10-yard split, 22 bench press reps, a 7.56-second 3-cone drill, a 4.58-second short shuttle, a 29.5-inch vertical, and a 9-foot-3 broad jump.
Mangelson is the first interior defensive lineman to join Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent, following the team’s draft picks of Derrick Harmon and Yahya Black. The Steelers now have 89 players on their active roster.
