Nordin Kapic’s basketball journey is taking a big leap as he commits to finish his college career with the South Carolina Gamecocks. The 6-foot-8 forward, who began his collegiate path at the Division II level, will now compete in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), giving head coach Lamont Paris another versatile and experienced option for the 2024–25 season. Kapic is the sixth transfer to join the Gamecocks this spring, as the program continues reloading for a competitive campaign.
Kapic announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal on March 31 and quickly drew interest due to his strong production and upward trajectory. With one year of eligibility remaining, his move to South Carolina marks the culmination of a steady rise through the collegiate ranks, from a Division II standout to a key contributor at UC San Diego, and now to a Power 4 school.
In his lone season with UC San Diego, Kapic started 33 games and helped guide the Tritons to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. He averaged 10.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, providing a reliable presence in the frontcourt. His performance in high-leverage situations stood out, particularly his 15-point, seven-rebound outing in their tournament game against Michigan.
Kapic’s season-high came in early December, when he poured in 25 points against CSU Bakersfield. His offensive skill set, combined with his size and court awareness, makes him a strong fit for South Carolina’s system, which emphasizes versatility and physicality in the frontcourt. His ability to stretch the floor and defend multiple positions should be a valuable asset in SEC play.
Before transferring to UC San Diego, Kapic spent two seasons at Lynn College, a Division II program in Florida. There, he made an immediate impact, earning Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2023. The following season, he was named to the first-team all-conference after leading the league in scoring at 19.3 points per game and ranking fifth in rebounds with 9.2 per contest.
One of Kapic’s most eye-catching performances at Lynn came in a 42-point explosion against Tampa, showcasing his ability to take over games offensively. His development from an unheralded Austrian recruit to a high-level NCAA player speaks to both his work ethic and skill progression over the years.
South Carolina’s roster now features 12 players, including a mix of transfers, returning players, and incoming freshmen. Kapic brings not only production but leadership and postseason experience, which will be crucial for a Gamecocks team aiming to take another step forward under Paris.
