Later this week, coaches from Syracuse University’s basketball team are expecting a visit from Jordan Smith Jr., a five-star shooting guard from Washington, D.C. Smith, standing at 6-foot-3, intends to make an unofficial visit to Syracuse on June 7, as initially reported by analyst Colby Giacubeno. This visit presents a significant opportunity for Syracuse to solidify their connection with Smith, who is considered one of the top 15 prospects nationally in the upcoming junior class.
After an impressive sophomore year at St. Paul VI Catholic High School in Chantilly, Virginia, where he earned All-America honors, Smith has continued to excel on the AAU circuit this spring. With new scholarship offers rolling in, it’s expected that his options will expand further when the contact period for 2026 prospects opens on June 15.
During the 2023-24 season, Smith averaged 9.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game, contributing to St. Paul VI’s success, including a runner-up finish at the 2024 Chipotle Nationals. His performance earned him various accolades, including spots on The Washington Post’s All-Met third team and MaxPreps sophomore All-America third team.
Syracuse extended an offer to Smith in May 2023, and he has since garnered interest from other notable programs such as Florida State and Arizona State. As the contact period approaches, it’s anticipated that his recruitment will intensify.
Smith’s involvement with Syracuse began early in his recruiting process, which bodes well for the program. However, his recruitment is expected to gain momentum once coaches can initiate direct communication with 2026 players. Additionally, he will be eligible to take official visits to college campuses starting August 1.
During the spring and summer, Smith is competing with Team Takeover in Nike’s EYBL league, a program with strong ties to Syracuse’s recruiting network. The coaching staff has been actively scouting him during EYBL sessions, where he has showcased his skills and athleticism, earning recognition on The Circuit’s All-EYBL Session IV Underclass team.
With impressive statistics throughout the EYBL season and Team Takeover’s strong performance, Smith’s recruitment is drawing considerable attention. His upcoming visit to Syracuse presents an opportunity for both parties to further explore their potential partnership.
