Super star edge rusher to the Buffalo Bills: NFL writer proposes wild trade

This time of the year is never short on wild and crazy takes. But could this trade proposal work for the Buffalo Bills?

During the period between the end of mandatory minicamp and the beginning of training camp, which spans about five weeks, there’s often a scramble among content creators worldwide to find topics to discuss. One common approach involves devising creative and sometimes speculative trade scenarios.

This is exemplified by a recent suggestion from a Bleacher Report NFL writer, proposing that the Bills offer a 2025 third-round draft pick to the Chargers in exchange for star edge rusher Joey Bosa. Here’s an excerpt from the article:

“Last season, only one player on Buffalo’s roster recorded more than 10 sacks—edge rusher Leonard Floyd, who has since joined San Francisco. Buffalo’s projected starting edge rushers, Gregory Rousseau and A.J. Epenesa, combined for just 11.5 sacks last year.”

Firstly, I like Rousseau heading into this season, he’ll improve on those sack numbers this season. But could such a move even work, I’m not so sure. Bosa, when healthy is one of the premier pass-rushers in the league. For the Chargers to accept only a third-round pick for him, seems like crazy talk to me. Plus, Bosa’s contract isn’t exactly small potatoes, and he is coming off a significant foot injury last season that cut his 2023 season short.

Observations: Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott says plan is for him to call defensive plays

He also missed a ton of time in 2022. Over the last two seasons, Bosa has played in only 14 games, starting nine of them. Three times in his eight-year career, he’s missed at least ten or more starts due to injury.

Bosa’s current contract comes with a cap hit of over $26 million in 2024 and over $36 million in 2025. First of all, I don’t know how Brandon Beane would get the Bills under the cap enough to fit this contract on the books, but secondly, for a player who has missed as much time as he has with injuries, I wouldn’t be comfortable making this move.

Such a move reminds me of the voll milla situation, and we’ve seen how that has worked out so far. I won’t dive deep into his injury history, but trust me, it’s extensive. However, I can provide you with this link to draftsharkers.com that outlines the injuries, and you’ll understand my hesitation.
