Lindsey Behonick, the head coach of Oregon State volleyball, recently announced the promotion of Abbie Wright to associate head coach. Wright, who is entering her second season at Oregon State, has been instrumental in the team’s success and plays a crucial role as the program’s recruiting coordinator.
Behonick praised Wright for her contributions, citing her previous experience as a head coach which has made her a pillar of the program. Under Wright’s guidance, the Oregon State Beavers achieved notable milestones including victories against ranked teams, sweeps of Arizona at home for the first time since 2017, and wins against the Washington schools on the road, also for the first time since 2017. Additionally, two Pac-12 players of the week emerged under her coaching, and Mychael Vernon received postseason all-conference honors, a first under the current coaching staff.
Before joining Oregon State, Wright coached at Fresno State in 2022 and had a successful tenure at Seattle Pacific. Her coaching career began at her alma mater, Biola University, where she led the team to four NAIA Tournament appearances and an impressive record.
Wright expressed her gratitude to Coach Behonick for the opportunities and growth she has experienced at Oregon State. She emphasized Behonick’s leadership, describing her as collaborative, insightful, and creative, and credited her with enhancing her skills as a coach and communicator.
As she looks forward to her second season with the Beavers, Wright is eager to continue contributing to the program’s success. The upcoming season will kick off with the Orange and Black Exhibition on August 17th, marking the beginning of another chapter in Oregon State volleyball under Wright’s leadership.
