Another day, another in-state commitment for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry.
In recent weeks, Virginia Tech football under coach Brent Pry has seen a flurry of commitments for the Class of 2025. As of Friday, the Hokies already had eight recruits from Virginia committed, and their roster grew stronger with the addition of highly sought-after three-star running back Jeffrey Overton.
Overton, standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 192 pounds, was a significant target for Virginia Tech. He ultimately chose the Hokies over offers from South Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia. His impressive credentials include being named the 2023-24 Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year after leading Freedom High School to a state championship with an astounding 2,713 rushing yards and 41 touchdowns. Last season, Overton averaged an impressive 13 yards per carry and also contributed 15 receptions for 341 yards and three touchdowns.

Expected to make an immediate impact in Virginia Tech’s backfield, Overton brings dynamic playmaking abilities. He joins quarterback Kelden Ryan, AJ Brand, Nathaniel Wright, an offensive lineman, and Jayden Anderson, a wide receiver from Virginia Beach, in the Class of 2025 offensive lineup.
Following a visit to Blacksburg, Overton expressed a strong connection with Virginia Tech, noting the natural fit he felt with offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and assistant coach Elijah Brooks. He also observed the positive cultural changes Pry has instilled in the program, highlighted by a renewed emphasis on winning as mentioned by returning players for the upcoming 2024 season.
Pry’s recruiting efforts in Virginia continue to yield significant results, with local recruits recognizing and contributing to the program’s upward trajectory.
