Rutgers Recruiting 2025: 4-Star Linebacker Commits

Rutgers football continues to build momentum in their 2025 recruitment class, securing another significant commitment. Kamar Archie, a highly touted four-star linebacker from The Hun School in New Jersey, announced his commitment to play for the Scarlet Knights yesterday. This marks the third four-star linebacker commitment in recent months, following D.J. McClary and Talibi Kaba, making them among the highest-rated linebacker recruits ever for Rutgers.

Under Greg Schiano’s leadership, Rutgers has historically been known for a strong defensive emphasis, with defensive backs often taking the spotlight. However, this new crop of linebackers has the potential to shift that focus.

Kamar Archie is described as a player who brings speed and physicality to the field, excelling in tackling and tracking down ball carriers with his instinctive play. While he is strong in these areas, his game still requires refinement, particularly in techniques to shed blocks. Nevertheless, his innate abilities—vision, speed, and physical presence—are seen as foundational strengths that can’t be taught.

D.J. McClary, originally committed to Penn State, opted to join Rutgers in June due to changes within Penn State’s coaching staff and his familial ties to Rutgers (his brother Isaac Holmes previously played there). McClary’s strengths lie in his pursuit skills and his ability to secure tackles effectively, evident from his impressive statistics during his junior season at Henry Snyder High School.

Talibi Kaba, categorized as an athlete on recruiting profiles but expected to contribute as a linebacker for Rutgers, brings valuable instincts and play recognition to the team. Known for his ability to dissect plays and consistently find himself in position to make impactful plays, Kaba’s athleticism and relentless work ethic are expected to be assets on the field.

With these three standout recruits, Rutgers looks poised to strengthen its defensive core, potentially elevating their linebacker unit to a prominent position within the team’s defensive strategy.
