Victoria Valdez has officially joined Texas Tech softball, marking her as the fifth transfer to join Coach Gerry Glasco’s team and the third from Louisiana Lafayette. Valdez, who hails from Alvin, Texas, spent two seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns, appearing in 115 games and starting 109.
Last season, she served as the primary catcher, achieving a .293 batting average with nine home runs and 36 RBIs. Her defensive prowess was evident with a .985 fielding percentage on 265 opportunities.
In her freshman year, Valdez hit .257 with three home runs and 16 RBIs, showing significant improvement in her offensive performance the following season. She garnered recognition, earning spots on the NFCA All-Central Region Third Team and the All-Louisiana Second Team.
Valdez also shone in the Sun Belt Championship, earning a place on the All-Tournament team after a standout performance against Troy, including a pivotal three-run homer that secured victory.
Coach Gerry Glasco praised Valdez’s skills, describing her as one of the nation’s top defensive catchers with an energetic and passionate approach to the game. He highlighted her ability to control opponents’ running games and bolster pitching confidence.
