Texas Tech enjoyed some Fourth of July recruiting fireworks with the commitment of 2025 Lubbock (TX) Cooper receiver Michael Dever, who announced his pledge to the Red Raiders on Thursday evening. He debuted in the 247Sports recruiting rankings with a high three-star 88 rating, top 75 nationally at the position.
Texas Tech had a standout Fourth of July on the recruiting front, securing a commitment from Michael Dever, a wide receiver from Lubbock Cooper High School in Texas. Dever, previously unrated by most recruiting services, made his pledge to the Red Raiders on Thursday evening. Shortly after his commitment, he earned a high three-star rating of 88 from 247Sports, placing him among the top 75 receivers nationally.
Gabe Brooks, National Recruiting Analyst at 247Sports, provided an evaluation of Dever’s skills, highlighting his prowess as a high jump standout who translates his vertical explosiveness into making contested catches on the field. Despite his listed size, Dever plays bigger due to his positive frame length and athleticism, demonstrating impressive body control and the ability to win battles for the ball.
He possesses a long-striding gait that allows him to build speed and shows awareness in finding open space, complemented by the capability to adjust his speed effectively. Brooks sees Dever as a legitimate Power 5 caliber receiver prospect with significant long-term potential, citing his strong multi-sport background that includes achievements in high jump and long jump.
Initially committed to Colorado State, Dever changed course and committed to Texas Tech, opting for the Red Raiders over offers from North Texas and Texas State. His decision was influenced by the rising profile of the Big 12 conference and his belief that his talent can contribute to Texas Tech’s aspirations of reaching the playoffs and securing victories.
Last season, Dever showcased his skills with 40 receptions for 672 yards and 11 touchdowns at Lubbock Cooper, also finishing sixth in the high jump at the state meet with a height of 6-foot-2.
Reflecting on his commitment, Dever expressed confidence in Texas Tech’s trajectory and emphasized his readiness to make an impact. He believes his abilities can help elevate the program and aims to stay ahead of the competition by consistently performing at a high level.
