The San Francisco Giants have addressed their need for a left-handed reliever by signing Clayton Andrews, a former prospect with the New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers, to a minor league deal, according to the team’s transaction log.
Currently, the Giants have two left-handed relievers on their major league roster: Erik Miller, who has impressed with a 3.35 ERA in 43 innings during his rookie season, and Taylor Rogers, boasting a 2.15 ERA across 37.2 innings but used sparingly in high-leverage situations.
SF Giants add former Yankees, Brewers lefty pitching prospect on a minors pact
While it’s uncertain if Andrews will be promoted to the majors immediately, there appears to be opportunity for another lefty reliever. Andrews, originally drafted in the 17th round by the Brewers from Long Beach State University, has shown solid minor league stats with a 3.66 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and strong strikeout rates over six seasons, including a 3.66 ERA in Triple-A.
In 2024, Andrews briefly joined the Yankees but struggled, allowing 11 earned runs in just 3.2 innings across stints with both the Yankees and Brewers. He features a repertoire anchored by a low 90s fastball complemented by a changeup, particularly effective against right-handed hitters.
After being waived by the Yankees in June and becoming a free agent, Andrews will begin with the ACL Giants before likely advancing to Triple-A in due course.
