The Braves add a fresh arm to the bullpen ahead of MLB game against the Met

Braves reinstate Jimmy Herget, option Daysbel Hernandez to Gwinnett

The Atlanta Braves are bolstering their bullpen by reinstating right-handed reliever Jimmy Herget from the 15-day injured list ahead of Saturday’s game against the New York Mets. As a corresponding move, Daysbel Hernandez has been optioned back to Gwinnett.

Herget, who was acquired from the Angels on May 2 for cash, has made five appearances for the Braves, allowing three runs in 7 1⁄3 innings, primarily in mop-up situations. He was placed on the 15-day IL on June 8 due to shoulder inflammation.

Hernandez, recalled to the active roster on Thursday, pitched 38 pitches during Friday’s 8-4 loss to the Mets, allowing one hit, one run, and three walks in 1 1⁄3 innings. This was the first earned run Hernandez had given up all season in 10 appearances and 11 innings.
