Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm trade opens door to deal away another talented fans favorite player

Jazz Chisholm’s ability to play second base could urge the Yankees to trade pending free agent Gleyber Torres.

New York Yankees fans, eager for a trade, have finally had their wish fulfilled. Jazz Chisholm is heading to the Bronx to address a need in manager Aaron Boone’s lineup. Chisholm is versatile, capable of playing both second base and the outfield.

The Yankees will part with three prospects, including catcher Agustin Ramirez, but none of their current major league players will be involved in the trade with the Marlins. This flexibility means Chisholm can be utilized in whichever position the team requires.

However, if Chisholm is used primarily at second base, Gleyber Torres would be left without a regular spot in the lineup. While Torres might see some action as a designated hitter due to his defensive limitations, he has no other field position available to him.

The Yankees should explore trading Gleyber Torres after adding Jazz Chisholm

His lack of versatility, coupled with decreased production at the plate this season, makes Gleyber Torres a likely trade candidate. Adding to this is the fact that Torres is set to become a free agent after this season. Given these factors, the Yankees might consider trading him before this year’s deadline. Moving Torres could be crucial for the team to clear salary space needed to re-sign Juan Soto in the offseason.

Torres could be traded to fill one of the team’s other needs. Acquiring an upgrade over slumping Alex Verdugo in left field would be a big boost for the Yankees. The team is also searching for a bullpen arm that can cause hitters to swing and miss during high leverage appearances in the playoffs. Packaging Torres together with a prospect or two could be enough to bring a true difference-maker to the Bronx.

The odds favor Torres staying with the Yankees through the end of this season, but a last-minute deadline deal can’t be ruled out. New York needs to shake their roster up if they want to save their season. Trading Torres might help them take a necessary step in that direction.
