The timing could not be any better for Michael Harris II to make his return to the Atlanta Braves.
In a challenging season marked by numerous injuries, the Atlanta Braves might be seeing some positive developments. Centerfielder Michael Harris II is set to begin his rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday night. Harris, who has been sidelined for most of the season due to a hamstring injury, is returning as Atlanta has been missing two starting outfielders since early June.
Harris is known for his defensive prowess and ability to disrupt the base paths, along with making a significant impact in various batting positions. Following the moves made by general manager Alex Anthopoulos at the MLB trade deadline, Harris, Jorge Soler, and Jarred Kelenic are expected to be Atlanta’s primary outfielders for the remainder of the season.
Although I remain doubtful that Harris will be able to provide the kind of boost this underperforming team needs, any improvement is better than none. Adding another player who can potentially lead off and play centerfield will be crucial for the team’s flexibility moving forward, especially given the heavy burden placed on Kelenic, who was initially expected to be part of a platoon in left field.
Before Harris returns to Atlanta, one more move will likely be necessary.
We are simply looking that one guy to catch fire in August and September. Might that guy be Harris?

Michael Harris II is now only one step away from his Atlanta Braves return
Even though Harris can be such a streaky hitter at times, I am most excited about his return to the Braves lineup eventually because of his innate ability to make something happen. Harris is the type of player who could go 0-for-4 at the plate with three punch outs, but could still positively impact the game either on the base path or on defense. A diving grab or a clutch steal could be the necessary spark.
That’s precisely what I’m anticipating from Harris—his ability to make an impact on the field, however small. These pivotal moments that create momentum are right in front of us. The choice is whether to stay passive or seize these opportunities in the hope of something greater. Harris has consistently stepped up for Atlanta, and his return could be a game-changer.
It’s not just about the unique contributions Harris can make to a fascinating game; it’s the broader effects of his presence that truly captivate me. Harris represents a burst of energy from the outfield, aiming to rejuvenate the team’s spirit as we head into the crucial stretch of the season. His return is eagerly awaited, but it can’t come soon enough for many fans.
Once Harris is back in the starting lineup, we’ll be able to fully immerse ourselves in Braves baseball once again.
