Lions sign experienced offensive lineman recognized for his intense practice style
Before heading back to training camp in Allen Park on Sunday, the Detroit Lions bolstered their offensive line by signing veteran lineman Jamarco Jones on Saturday.
Jones’ signing was initially reported by his representatives at AMDG Sports, who also represent Lions offensive tackle and former Ohio State teammate Taylor Decker.
Jones entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick in the 2018 draft with the Seattle Seahawks, following standout seasons at Ohio State where he earned All-Big Ten honors in 2016 and 2017. Over his first four NFL seasons with the Seahawks, he appeared in 36 games (seven starts), logging 672 offensive snaps and 149 defensive snaps.
In 2022, Jones moved to the Tennessee Titans on a two-year deal but was placed on injured reserve in late September. During the 2023 training camp, Jones was involved in multiple practice altercations, including one that led to a brawl. He was also involved in a confrontation with Titans All-Pro defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons, resulting in his ejection from practice and subsequent release from the team.
Although Jones hasn’t played in the NFL since 2021, his addition to the training camp roster is timely as the Lions are short on offensive linemen.
Netane Muti, who was signed by the Lions in February, sustained a major shoulder injury during practice on July 30, ending his season. The following day, the Lions brought in Michigan Panthers lineman Jake Burton, reuniting him with his former teammate, kicker Jake Bates.
Additionally, Christian Mahogany, drafted by the Lions in the sixth round this year, remains on the Non-Football Illness list.
