Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen appears unconcerned about how his salary stacks up against other quarterbacks with larger contracts. Allen, who secured a six-year, $258 million deal in August 2021, was among the highest-paid quarterbacks at the time. However, recent contracts have moved his $43 million annual average to the 13th spot among quarterbacks.
Addressing reporters on August 20, Allen dismissed questions about feeling underpaid, expressing satisfaction for his peers and emphasizing his focus on the upcoming season with the Bills.
Since signing his contract extension in 2021, Josh Allen’s deal has been overtaken by contracts for quarterbacks with less impressive track records. For instance, Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers have both secured deals worth $55 million per year, despite Love having only one playoff appearance and Lawrence’s relatively shorter career.
Josh Allen: ‘The Market Is the Market’
Josh Allen was asked if he feels underpaid.
His contract ranks 13th among QBs in average value & 11th in total guarantees.
But his answer was insightful.

Allen acknowledged that the quarterback market in the NFL is constantly evolving and expressed that he’s not overly concerned about it.
“Everyone will have their moment,” Allen stated. “I’m glad to see others getting what they deserve. As the game progresses and salaries continue to rise, it’s just how the market works.”
He expressed satisfaction with his current contract, suggesting that he will likely see more lucrative deals in the future.
Bills Quarterback Excited About Coming Season
“I’m happy with where I stand right now,” Allen remarked. “I had my time a couple of years ago, and I’m confident I’ll have another opportunity. My main focus is on playing football to the best of my ability, and everything else will fall into place.”
As the Bills head into the 2024 season, Allen will be leading an offense that has undergone significant changes. The team traded All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans and saw No. 2 receiver Gabe Davis depart in free agency.
Allen acknowledged the challenge of replacing Diggs but remains optimistic about the team’s new additions. The Bills acquired veteran receiver Curtis Samuel and used their top draft pick on wide receiver Keon Coleman.
“I’m very comfortable with the new players we’ve brought in,” Allen said. “Stef was an All-Pro here with impressive stats, including multiple seasons with over 100 catches and 1,000 yards. It’s a big task for someone to step into those shoes.”
He added, “The new guys are working hard and contributing however they can. If they get the ball, great, and if not, they’re focused on helping others succeed. We’ll see how it all plays out.”
