Breaking: Another South Carolina Veteran wide receiver lands new home in transfer

Former South Carolina football wide receiver Ahmari Huggins-Bruce is officially on the Louisville Cardinals roster.

After losing Xavier Legette and several other wide receivers this offseason, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and his staff added five wide receivers from the transfer portal to strengthen the position for new wide receivers coach Mike Furrey.

The new additions included Jared Brown (Coastal Carolina), Ahmari Huggins-Bruce (Louisville), Gage Larvadain (Miami (OH)), Vandrevius Jacobs (Florida State), and Dalevon Campbell (Nevada), all expected to contribute to the receiving corps.

However, last week, Ahmari Huggins-Bruce left the Gamecocks after failing to secure a spot in the two-deep depth chart. He quickly enrolled back at the University of Louisville and rejoined the Cardinals’ roster on Tuesday, just days before the start of the season. The specifics of his status—whether as a walk-on or scholarship player—are not yet clear, but as a college graduate, he should be eligible to play if approved by Louisville’s coaching staff.

Huggins-Bruce’s departure does not significantly alter South Carolina’s wide receiver plans. The Gamecocks’ official depth chart released on Monday named Vandrevius Jacobs and Jared Brown as starters. A competitive battle continues among Gage Larvadain, Mazeo Bennett, Luke Doty, and Payton Mangrum. These six wideouts, along with Nyck Harbor, Tyshawn Russell, and Dalevon Campbell, will likely see most of the playing time early in the season.

South Carolina will face the Old Dominion Monarchs at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday at 4:15 PM ET. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network and streamed on the ESPN app.
