Addition will bolster receiving room ahead of 2024 season
The Detroit Lions are strengthening their receiving corps by adding Allen Robinson II to their practice squad, according to Field Yates, ESPN Fantasy Football and NFL Draft Analyst.
Robinson, a former first-team All-American from Penn State in 2013, has faced challenges in his NFL career recently but aims to revive his performance with his hometown team.
The Lions have been seeking additional help at wide receiver, and Robinson might be able to contribute, albeit in a reduced role. Last year with Pittsburgh, Robinson was utilized as the WR3 but struggled with separation and production. Although he has Pro Bowl seasons on his resume and was a standout with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears, he is not the same player he once was.
Drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014, Robinson made a significant impact with the Chicago Bears from 2018 to 2021, dominating the NFC North. At 6′2″ and 220 pounds, this Pro Bowl receiver is a valuable addition to the Lions’ roster, joining Tim Patrick, who was also signed to the practice squad on August 27.

Robinson had a brief stint with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022, replacing Odell Beckham Jr., but struggled to connect with quarterback Matthew Stafford. He then moved to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023, where he played alongside George Pickens, but faced difficulties due to poor quarterback performance. His time with the New York Giants was also unsatisfactory due to subpar quarterback play.
For his career, Robinson has recorded 562 receptions for 7,028 yards and 43 touchdowns. During the Giants’ preseason, he caught three passes for 23 yards and had one carry for 10 yards before his release.
Additionally, ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports that the Lions have re-signed former Michigan Wolverines receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones to their practice squad to further enhance their receiving lineup.
