The Detroit Lions are optimistic about DJ Reader’s status for their upcoming game against the Los Angeles Rams, as he is listed as questionable. This is the most favorable outcome for an injured player, suggesting he is more likely to play than not.
Reader, who signed a two-year, $27.25 million contract with Detroit during the offseason, missed all of the offseason workouts while recovering from a torn quad suffered last season with Cincinnati. Initially expected to return in Week 2, he has made faster progress than anticipated, returning to practice last week and participating fully this week, bringing him closer to making his debut with the Lions.
“Yeah, he looked pretty good,” said head coach Dan Campbell. “Now it’s just a matter of how many snaps he can handle if he plays, and whether that will help him gain more readiness for next week or if it might just be a setback. … He’s improving daily, and his increased participation yesterday was a positive sign.”
Meanwhile, safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle) is doubtful after missing another practice on Friday, and safety Loren Strickland (thumb) has been ruled out.
