Head coach Grant McCasland and his team are currently hosting one of the nation’s top high school prospects, Shelton Henderson, a five-star forward from Bellaire, Texas, who is visiting to explore what Texas Tech and Lubbock have to offer.
This is a significant opportunity for the Red Raiders, as Henderson is ranked as the No. 22 overall player and No. 4 small forward in the 2025 class by 247Sports.com. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound forward is highly sought after, with offers from prestigious programs such as Duke, Texas, Louisville, Houston, LSU, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas A&M, and more.
Henderson visited Louisville in August and has upcoming visits to Duke and Texas later this month, indicating that Texas Tech faces stiff competition in this recruiting race.

In early August, Henderson announced his top six schools, which include Texas Tech alongside Louisville, LSU, Houston, Texas, and Duke. It’s no surprise that he is visiting this weekend.
Texas Tech will certainly do everything possible to secure this highly sought-after player, especially since they currently have no commitments for the 2025 class. If Henderson chooses to join the Red Raiders, he would make history as the highest-ranked recruit in the program’s history, surpassing Jahmi’us Ramsey, who was the No. 32 overall player and a four-star prospect in 2019.
The current Texas Tech roster features four guards and forwards who will be seniors this season, making it essential to strengthen the wing position next summer. While the transfer portal will be a key factor, securing Henderson would significantly bolster the program’s future.
