Mallory is among the top point guards in the 2025 class. According to 247sports.com, he ranks as the No. 3 player in Virginia, the No. 7 point guard nationally, and the No. 57 player overall.
A standout prospect from Saint Anne’s-Belfield (STAB) High School, Mallory has been a target for Virginia for several years. During his junior year, he averaged 26 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game, and he has been demonstrating his exceptional skills all summer with Team Thrill.
Though he stands at just 5-foot-9, few players can match his basketball abilities. He handles the ball confidently, has impressive range and a quick release, and displays a diverse array of finishes around the basket. This summer, he shot 45% from the field, 38% from three-point range, and an impressive 90% from the free-throw line.
Mallory is a proven scorer capable of finishing from all three levels. He plays with a smooth style, maintains control, and uses changes in speed and direction to create space, showcasing a variety of finishes around the basket. While he may face challenges adjusting to the size and strength of ACC basketball, his skill set is impressive.
Virginia fans are likely to compare him to Kihei Clark. Although both are smaller point guards, Mallory is a different player entirely. He is a more dynamic scorer than Clark, with a quicker release and the ability to hit three-pointers from long distances in John Paul Jones Arena. However, he will need to improve his defensive intensity, particularly in applying ball pressure like Clark did during his time at UVA.
Tony Bennett and his staff must have made a strong impression during Mallory’s official visit to Virginia last weekend. Following that visit, he immediately canceled any future visits and chose to stay home.
Mallory is the first commitment for UVA’s 2025 recruiting class, filling a significant need for the program. The ‘Hoos are now looking to add a forward to complete the class, with top prospects like No. 4 Nate Ament, No. 50 Cam Ward, and No. 84 Tre Singleton (who is visiting this weekend) on their radar.
For now, Mallory is an excellent addition. The Charlottesville native joins fellow STAB alum Kymora Johnson in staying local, and he’s sure to become a fan favorite in orange and blue. He has the potential to be the ideal point guard to help lead the ‘Hoos back to national prominence.
