The Buffalo Bills started strong with a 3-0 record, but then faced a humiliating 25-point defeat in primetime against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football.
The situation worsened when the NFL unexpectedly announced a four-game suspension for star pass rusher Von Miller on Tuesday, October 1.
Von Miller of the Buffalo Bills is suspended for four games without pay due to a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy,” the league stated in a message shared by Buffalo on its team X account. “Miller will be eligible for reinstatement on October 28, following the Bills’ Week 8 game against the Seattle Seahawks.”
The reasons for the suspension weren’t immediately clear, but several outlets, including CNN, suggested on Tuesday that it might be related to “an alleged domestic dispute in Texas in 2023.”
The Buffalo defense needs to put the distraction behind them and get ready for a challenging road game against the Houston Texans on Sunday. Head coach Sean McDermott emphasized the mindset required to achieve this, even with Miller out.
“Somebody needs to step up,” McDermott stated on Wednesday, noting that the team has faced adversity in the past and shown their ability to bounce back.
“The defense has had to handle various challenges, including injuries and now the suspension of Von,” McDermott added. “I expect the same this time—someone will step up.”
Miller, an eight-time Pro Bowler with 126.5 career sacks, has already recorded 3 sacks and 3 tackles for loss in four games this season.
