While being heavily recruited, four-star Class of 2025 women’s basketball player Aniya Trent never considered Virginia Tech as a possibility. However, everything changed when Kenny Brooks departed for Kentucky, and the Hokies hired Megan Duffy from Marquette.
After Duffy got settled in Blacksburg, Virginia Tech became a contender for Trent. The new coach made a strong impression, and Trent was looking for a place with a family atmosphere and a supportive culture, which she found with Duffy and her staff.
Aniya Trent commits to Virginia Tech
On Monday, Aniya Trent committed to Virginia Tech, choosing the Hokies over Clemson, Penn State, and Washington. The Springboro, Ohio native adds to Megan Duffy’s impressive recruiting efforts in her early tenure at Virginia Tech. Trent noted that current assistant Jen Hoover, who previously worked at Kentucky, had been recruiting her during that time.
“I chose VT because as soon as I got on campus, it felt like home,” Trent shared with On3. “The coaches, the players, and everyone I met were amazing. They believe in me and want to win, which aligns perfectly with my goals for the next four years.”
In the Class of 2025, Duffy has already secured commitments from four-star guard Katie Sears from North Carolina and wing Amani Jenkins from Iowa. As a forward, Trent was a highly sought-after recruit, but once Virginia Tech entered the mix, they successfully secured her commitment. Known for her strong post presence, she has the potential to become a key player for the Hokies on both ends of the court if she develops her outside shooting.
