Breaking: Former Kansas State star signs with the Packers.

Former Kansas State standout receiver Malik Knowles signed with the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday.

Former Kansas State wide receiver Malik Knowles unexpectedly went undrafted after a standout final two seasons with the Wildcats in the 2023 NFL Draft.

He eventually signed as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings but spent his entire rookie season on the reserve/non-football injury list. This was disappointing for Kansas State fans, who recognized his potential both as a receiver and a kick returner.

This summer at Vikings training camp, Knowles was waived with an injury designation just before the deadline for the 53-man roster.

Despite these challenges, he has now secured another chance with a promising young team known for developing talent at the receiver position.

On Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers announced they signed Knowles to their practice squad, filling the spot of TJ Luther, who was placed on the injured list.

The two-time All-American enjoyed an impressive five-year career at Kansas State, racking up 2,307 scrimmage yards and 18 touchdowns. In his final year with the Wildcats, Knowles recorded a career-high 889 scrimmage yards and five total touchdowns on 56 touches.

As a returner, Knowles proved to be one of the most explosive players on special teams. The 6-foot-2 receiver accumulated 1,691 yards on kick returns and 3,998 yards on punt returns.

He also ranked fourth nationally in kick return average, with 33.1 yards per game. Given the NFL’s new kickoff rule, the former Wildcat standout may have the chance to play this season or at least remain on the practice squad.
