Dallas’ running game has faced considerable criticism this season, as the Cowboys haven’t performed in the backfield as expected. To address this, bringing in another playmaker could be beneficial.
The Cowboys have the resources to facilitate a trade, and Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio suggested that New Orleans Saints star Alvin Kamara could be a strong candidate.
“The biggest name and the most obvious candidate for a trade is running back Alvin Kamara,” Florio remarked. “His contract includes a $25 million payment for 2025, and if he doesn’t secure a new deal, he’ll be released after the season, meaning the Saints would get nothing in return. So why not trade him instead?”
Florio, along with Rodney Harrison, discussed potential interested teams during a recent episode of PFT Live. They identified the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, and Minnesota Vikings as possible suitors. The main question is whether a contender would be willing to part with a draft pick or two for a half-season rental and a potential playoff run with Kamara.
Currently, Dallas holds a 3-3 record, not living up to expectations. Adding someone like Kamara could provide a much-needed spark. He signed a five-year, $75 million deal with the Saints, but it appears his time in New Orleans may be coming to an end.
The Cowboys have emphasized their commitment to the 2024 season. While their performance hasn’t reflected that yet, acquiring Kamara would certainly indicate a serious effort to improve.
