Breaking: One of Orioles top-star is an ideal fit for Braves major trade target

The Orioles are an intriguing team to watch this offseason, boasting a wealth of young talent and promising players ready to step up. With new ownership, they are expected to be more aggressive in trades and open to spending.

One of their key offseason decisions revolves around free agent Anthony Santander. Coming off a season with a career-high 44 home runs—his third straight year with at least 28—he’s poised to be a sought-after player. Given the abundance of outfielders in the Orioles’ lineup, they might decide to allocate their financial resources elsewhere.

The main concern for Baltimore has been their pitching staff, not their offense. Corbin Burnes is set to enter free agency, likely seeking a deal exceeding $200 million after four consecutive All-Star appearances. Addressing their pitching should be the Orioles’ top priority, alongside enhancing their offense.

While they may consider re-signing Santander, his potential departure could open the door for teams like the Braves, who might be looking to add a big name alongside Michael Harris II and Ronald Acuña Jr. in the outfield.

2022 in Review: Anthony Santander - Baltimore Sports and Life

Spotrac estimates Santander’s market value at around $17.7 million annually over five years, totaling $88 million. This is a significant commitment for a 30-year-old whose value primarily comes from his power, as he doesn’t hit for a high average and has defensive limitations.

The Braves are clearly in need of another outfielder, especially after the Jarred Kelenic experiment in left field fell flat. With Adam Duvall unlikely to return and uncertainty surrounding Acuña Jr.’s readiness following his second ACL surgery, the Braves may be in the market for multiple outfielders.

Offensive struggles plagued Atlanta in 2024, which was surprising given their record-breaking performance the previous year. Injuries played a role in their difficulties, but if the Braves trade away Marcell Ozuna or Jorge Soler—or both—they will need to acquire another slugger. Santander could be a fitting option worth exploring this offseason, depending on the market.
