Breaking: Texas Tech Lands Another Commitment of a Top Talented 4-Star To Powerhouse

The Texas Tech football program is working hard to flip a four-star edge rusher away from TCU.

The Texas Tech football program clearly needs to enhance its pass rush. With only six sacks recorded in seven games this season, improving recruitment at this position is crucial to avoid repeating the struggles seen in 2024.

A positive development is the recent official visit by one of Texas’ top-rated edge rushers, Chad Woodfork, to Lubbock. He shared photos of his visit on Instagram, sparking hope among Red Raider fans that he might switch his commitment from TCU, where he has been since May.

Woodfork is a four-star recruit according to 247Sports.com. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 220 pounds, he is ranked as the No. 72 player nationally and the No. 16 player in Texas for the class of 2025 in the 247Sports composite rankings.

In addition to Texas Tech and TCU, Woodfork has offers from notable programs like Florida State, Georgia, Baylor, Arkansas, Kansas State, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Texas, Southern California, and many others.

This season, injuries have significantly impacted Tech’s edge rusher position. The team lost expected starters Dylan Spencer and Joseph Adedire for the entire season during fall camp. Additionally, players like Harvey Dyson, Isaac Smith, and Amier Washington have missed games, making it extremely challenging for the Red Raiders to generate a pass rush.

The situation became so dire in Saturday’s loss to Baylor that tight end Johncarols Miller was even used as an edge rusher during a few defensive plays. This reflects a team desperately searching for anyone capable of pressuring the opposing quarterback.

To address its pass rush woes, the Red Raiders need to win key recruiting battles like this one, particularly against in-state conference rivals. While they will likely look for immediate assistance through the transfer portal this offseason, keeping an eye on Woodfork’s recruitment is essential. Although he is currently committed to TCU, his exploration of options is promising for Texas Tech as they aim to resolve one of their most pressing weaknesses.
