The Atlanta Braves have announced the hiring of Tim Hyers as their new hitting coach, replacing Kevin Seitzer, who was fired two weeks ago. Hyers previously served as the hitting coach for the Texas Rangers, leaving them with a vacancy to fill.
At 53 years old, Hyers is a Georgia native, born in Atlanta and a graduate of Newton County High School. He was drafted by the Blue Jays in 1990 and played in the majors from 1994 to 1999 with the Padres, Tigers, and Marlins. After his playing career, he transitioned into coaching, starting as an assistant hitting coach with the Dodgers in 2016.
Hyers has a successful coaching track record, having won World Series titles with both the Boston Red Sox in 2018 and the Rangers in 2023. His return to his hometown team is a significant opportunity, and he remains excited about it, continuing to live in the Atlanta area.
With Hyers moving to the Braves, the Rangers will now need to search for his replacement as they look to improve after a disappointing 2024 season. According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, despite having bench coach/offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker on staff, the Rangers plan to actively seek a new hire.
