The Buffalo Bills, fresh off their significant trade for Amari Cooper to enhance their offense, may not be finished yet. Reports suggest they could be eyeing another major move to strengthen their defense ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
According to SI.com’s Matt Verderame, the struggling Carolina Panthers might look to offload players, and the Bills could be a prime trade partner given their close ties. Panthers GM Dan Morgan previously worked under Bills GM Brandon Beane, which could facilitate discussions.
One player mentioned as a potential target is pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney. While the Bills recently bolstered their receiving corps, adding another pass rusher might be beneficial, especially with Clowney set to hit free agency after this season. Clowney’s production has dipped this year, with only one sack and six tackles in five games, but he had a productive season in 2023 with the Ravens, recording 9.5 sacks.
Additionally, SI.com’s Albert Breer noted that the Panthers are open to trade discussions on all players, including wide receiver Adam Thielen and Clowney. With several teams in need of pass-rush help, Clowney could be a sought-after commodity.
The Bills might also consider addressing their linebacker depth, especially after the loss of Matt Milano. Pro Football Focus writer Bradley Locker suggested they could pursue Cleveland Browns linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah to shore up that position, as the team’s linebackers have struggled in Milano’s absence.
Beane has expressed that the Bills are still actively seeking improvements, emphasizing their commitment to competing for a championship while Josh Allen remains at quarterback. “We’re still all-in,” he said, hinting at ongoing discussions to enhance the roster as the trade deadline approaches.
