BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Bills Mafia is once again doing what they do best—celebrating significant moments in the team’s history by contributing to charity.
This time, they’re supporting Ten Lives Club, an animal shelter in Western New York, following Tyler Bass’s record-setting 61-yard field goal during Sunday’s win over the Miami Dolphins.
Ten Lives Club reported a surge in donations right after Bass made the kick. The moment came in the final seconds of the game, with the score tied at 27. Bass’s kick, which went through the uprights with just five seconds left in the fourth quarter, secured a 30-27 victory for Buffalo.
“So far, $2,000 has been donated through the Ten Lives Club website and Facebook in various amounts in support of Tyler Bass,” the shelter stated in a message to 7 News on Sunday evening. Many fans are contributing $61, a tribute to Bass’s impressive kick.
UPDATE: As of Monday morning, donations to Ten Lives Club have exceeded $13,000.
This isn’t the first time Bills fans have rallied to support the shelter in Bass’s honor. Following his missed 44-yard field goal in last year’s AFC Divisional Playoffs, which resulted in a 27-24 loss to Kansas City, Bills Mafia donated over $400,000 to the shelter in the days after that game.
In May, Ten Lives Club announced plans to build the “Tyler Bass Adoption Center” thanks to the generous donations from the community.
