Breaking: Rudder Looking To Make Playoffs For Second Time In School History

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The high school football regular season concludes this Friday, and the Rudder Rangers are on the brink of making the playoffs for just the second time in school history.

After a strong 6-0 start, matching their best record ever, the Rangers have now lost their last three games. However, if Killeen Ellison defeats Waco University on Friday and Rudder wins against Waco, they will secure a spot in the postseason.

“We know what’s at stake, and the players understand we need to win,” said Rudder head coach Eric Ezar. “It’s been a fantastic season, but it won’t feel special if we lose and miss the playoffs. We want to keep this momentum going. Once you’re in the playoffs, it’s a fresh start at 0-0. To get there, we need to beat Waco.”

Rudder is one victory away from tying its school record for most wins in a season with seven.

Other local teams headed to the playoffs include A&M Consolidated, which has already clinched the District 12-5A-I championship and could finish the regular season undefeated for the first time since 2019. College Station has completed its regular season and is locked in as the two-seed from that district.
