The 2-7 New York Giants, currently at the bottom of the NFC East, are set to face the Carolina Panthers in Germany.
This season appears to be slipping away for New York, and many likely believe their best move would be to tank and boost their draft position, aiming to select a potential star—possibly a new quarterback.
As the game approaches, the outlook for the Giants worsens, with one of their top offensive players not even traveling overseas for the matchup.
“Giants rule out WR Darius Slayton (concussion) for Sunday vs. the Panthers. He won’t travel to Germany,” NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reported.
This marks Slayton’s second concussion this season, though he didn’t miss any games following the first one.
Slayton ranks third on the team with 32 receptions and is second in receiving yards with 469, making his playmaking ability a significant loss for New York.
Rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers has become a true playmaking asset for New York, amassing 55 catches for 557 yards and three touchdowns.
However, Nabers has yet to provide quarterback Daniel Jones with any significant boost.
Jones has thrown only eight touchdown passes and completed 63.8 percent of his passes through eight games. Additionally, he hasn’t posed the same rushing threat this season as he did in previous years.
Currently, the Giants are in a seven-way tie for the NFL’s worst record, potentially putting them in a position to draft a significant upgrade over Jones.
