The Hokies could be getting some key players back against Clemson this weekend.
In recent weeks, injuries have been mounting for the Virginia Tech football team. During last weekend’s game at Syracuse, the Hokies were without two key offensive players—quarterback Kyron Drones and running back Bhayshul Tuten—and also lost cornerback Mansoor Delane during the game.
At his weekly press conference on Tuesday ahead of this Saturday’s matchup against Clemson at Lane Stadium, head coach Brent Pry wasn’t optimistic about all of his players being available. He listed Tuten, Delane, and Drones as questionable for the ACC showdown. However, by Wednesday, Pry sounded more hopeful, suggesting that the possibility of all three players being ready to play was looking much more likely.
Brent Pry gives encouraging injury update ahead of Clemson battle
David Cunningham of *Tech Sideline* reported that Kyron Drones, Bhayshul Tuten, and Mansoor Delane were all moving around well during practice on Wednesday afternoon. Following the session, head coach Brent Pry gave an optimistic update on their availability for Saturday’s game against Clemson.
“I think all three of them have a good chance [to play Saturday vs. Clemson] after yesterday and today,” Pry said.
Having those key players back would be a significant boost for the Hokies, especially Drones and Tuten on offense. While Collin Schlee, Malachi Thomas, and Jeremiah Coney stepped up admirably in their absence during the Syracuse game, the Virginia Tech offense is simply a different unit with Drones and Tuten on the field. The replacements played well enough to secure a win over the Orange, but the Hokies’ defense faltered in the second half, costing them the game.
At this stage of the season, every team is dealing with injuries, but getting Drones, Tuten, and Delane back for the Clemson matchup would be a major advantage for Virginia Tech. The Hokies need one more win to become bowl-eligible, and having their top players healthy and ready to go could make all the difference in achieving that goal.
