Kansas State receives Devastating Injury to one of their key Player from a Car Crash

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – A Kansas State University football player was hospitalized following a head-on crash Wednesday morning on the northeast side of Manhattan, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred at 6:17 a.m. at the intersection of Marlatt Avenue and Matter Drive.

According to Riley County Police, a 2018 Jeep Cherokee driven by Akeema Jones-Greene crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2019 GMC Sierra driven by Alec Marenco.

Police said Marenco tried to avoid the Jeep by swerving, but Jones-Greene returned to her lane, causing the two vehicles to collide.

Marenco, a linebacker for the Kansas State football team, was taken by ambulance to Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Marenco, who transferred to Kansas State after playing three seasons at the University of New Mexico, earned All-Mountain West honorable mention honors in 2023.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.
