Hawks Two-Way Prospect Inspires G League Team With First NBA Start

Keaton Wallace: From the G League to the big leagues

On November 12, Keaton Wallace stepped in for the injured Trae Young as Atlanta’s starting point guard, a role few anticipated would lead to a road win against the reigning NBA champion Boston Celtics. Yet, the Hawks defied expectations, going head-to-head with the champs and pulling off a stunning upset.

In his first-ever NBA start, Wallace made it a game to remember. Although his shooting performance was modest, he dished out eight assists with only two turnovers and showcased stellar defense throughout the night. Teaming up with Dyson Daniels, Wallace caused chaos for Boston’s backcourt.

Before earning a two-way contract during Summer League last July, Wallace spent three years exclusively in the G League. He honed his defensive skills last season with the College Park Skyhawks, Atlanta’s G League affiliate known for fostering one of the strongest defensive cultures in basketball.
