Breaststroker Alexis Dalton Commits To South Carolina For Fall 2025

Dalton is a Winter Juniors qualifier, having met the 100 breaststroke cut once again this past summer at the 2024 Speedo Summer Championships in July. During the meet, she improved her long-course meters 100 breaststroke time twice—first with a 1:12.50 in prelims, then again with a 1:11.93 in finals.

Her best short-course yards breaststroke times were both set at the Speedo Southern Premier in March 2023. She placed second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.64 and recorded a 2:21.39 in the 200 breast prelims, finishing 15th in the event.

Dalton has also achieved success during the high school season. Since the 200 breaststroke is not part of the high school schedule, she competes in the 100 freestyle as her second event. At the 2024 GHSA 1-5A State Championships, she finished third in both the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle. The previous year, she placed fourth in the 100 breast and third in the 100 free.

Last season, Lien Yu, now a sophomore, was South Carolina’s top breaststroker with a time of 1:01.69. The breaststroke group lost some depth due to graduations, but swimmers like Delaney Walker have stepped up to fill the gap. Dalton’s addition will strengthen the team’s depth. She will need to improve her times to score at the SEC Championships, especially as the competition has become even fiercer with Texas joining the conference.

The South Carolina women are coming off a successful 2023-24 season, finishing seventh at the 2024 SEC Championships, their highest placement since 2011. The team has bolstered its class of 2029 with commitments from Dalton, Kesa Taivassalo, Tori Abruzzo, and Sofia Luper, all of whom made their commitments official last week.
