The Baltimore Ravens have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers slot cornerback Desmond King to their practice squad, the team announced. King visited Baltimore last week as part of a group brought in for tryouts. Two weeks ago, the Houston Texans released King from their practice squad.
King has spent much of his recent seasons as the Texans’ starting slot cornerback, but was beaten out for the position by Myles Bryant during training camp. This led to his release, followed by a re-signing to the practice squad. He has played in only one game for Houston this season.
A similar situation unfolded last year when the Texans cut King after training camp, and the Steelers claimed him off waivers. However, King spent only five weeks with Pittsburgh, playing just one snap before being released.
Following that, King returned to Houston, where he became the primary slot cornerback and played a key role, including in their playoff victory over the Cleveland Browns.
A product of Iowa, King started his career with the Los Angeles Chargers. Now, at 29 years old, he joins the Ravens, hoping to provide support to a banged-up secondary that recently lost slot cornerback Arthur Maulet to a calf injury.
