Blake Corum, the reigning national champion running back, is one of the top running back prospects in the relatively mediocre 2024 NFL Draft class. During his final season, the running back led Michigan’s offense with 1,245 yards and 27 touchdowns on 258 carries, as well as 16 receptions for 117 yards and another touchdown.
While he lacks the deep speed to be more than an effective starter, Blake Corum will most likely be drafted in the second or third round. If DraftKings is to be believed, that team will most likely be the Los Angeles Chargers, who are currently favored to draft the running back at +190 odds. Following closely behind them are the New York Giants (+330), Dallas Cowboys (+750), and Minnesota Vikings.
Nobody should be surprised that the Chargers are the favorites to select Blake Corum. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has spent the previous two seasons running his system through Corum with the Wolverines, and he’d likely relish the opportunity to do the same in the NFL.
Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman have spent the offseason discussing the importance of the running game. For better or worse, this squad will establish the run by 2024, and they will need stronger running backs to do so. Gus Edwards is an excellent journeyman, and J.K. Dobbins is a solid low-risk, high-reward deal, but the Chargers need to choose a long-term solution, such as Blake Corum.
Of course, the Chargers are the favorites, but they aren’t the only team interested in acquiring Blake Corum during the NFL Draft. While DraftKings identified five other teams, the three listed below are particularly noteworthy.
The Giants lost Saquon Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles and immediately signed Devin Singletary to replace him. Singletary is coming off a solid season with the Houston Texans, but he’s hardly a three-down specialist. With holes throughout the roster, New York may be unable to justify a Day 2 choice for a running back. However, if they are going to draft someone, it might as well be Blake Corum.
