The Buffalo Bills made a significant move to bolster their wide receiving corps by acquiring Amari Cooper ahead of the NFL trade deadline. The trade immediately paid off when Cooper caught a touchdown just days later.
While Cooper is expected to take on a larger role in the offense as the Bills aim for their fifth consecutive division title and a chance at the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC, his long-term future with the team is uncertain. He will become a free agent after this season, and there’s no guarantee he will return.
In light of this, Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine suggests that the Bills may need to form a contingency plan, potentially targeting a young, promising wide receiver who is having a career-best season.
Bills Have More Work in Wide Receiving Corps
In his breakdown of roster needs for all 32 NFL teams, Ballentine suggested that the Bills could target Washington Commanders wide receiver Dyami Brown, who will be a free agent after this season. The 25-year-old Brown has already set career highs this season with 16 catches for 171 yards and one touchdown.
“The Bills have put together a receiving corps that’s good enough right now, but the work isn’t quite done,” Ballentine wrote. “If Buffalo can’t re-sign Amari Cooper after trading for him, they’ll really have to focus on adding new talent. At the same time, the Bills probably don’t want to target the top range of free agency financially.”
Although Brown’s production hasn’t been spectacular, Ballentine proposed that the Bills could sign him based on his potential and see if he thrives with Josh Allen as his quarterback.
“Targeting someone like Dyami Brown would give them a younger free agent who could develop into a better player. Brown has flashed some potential this season with the Commanders, but a fresh start in Buffalo could elevate his game,” Ballentine wrote.
