As the Denver Nuggets look to enhance their offense, they are reportedly targeting Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine, according to Sam Amick and Tony Jones of The Athletic.
If LaVine were to join the Nuggets, it would likely signal the end of Michael Porter Jr.’s time with the team. LaVine is a more dynamic three-level scorer, with experience as the primary option in an offense and greater skill as a playmaker.
Zach LaVine is currently averaging 21.7 points and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 42.8% from three on 7.5 attempts. In comparison, Michael Porter Jr. is posting 18.5 points and 2.8 assists per game, making 38.5% of his six three-point attempts.
However, Denver might regret making this trade. While the Nuggets have a top-five offense, averaging 119.2 points per game, their more pressing concerns are their lack of balance and the need to improve their second unit.
The 2022-23 NBA champions rank 15th in defensive rating, allowing 112.9 points per 100 possessions. This has resulted in a net rating of 13th (2.5), according to NBA.com.
LaVine will turn 30 in March and is under contract for $46 million next season. He also has a $49 million player option for the 2026-27 season, when he will be 32.
Michael Porter Jr. is 26 years old and is under contract for $38.3 million next season, with $40.8 million guaranteed for the 2026-27 season.
