Virginia Tech Lands Home In Commitment With Another Talented Player From A Good Team

One key takeaway from the first 10 days of the transfer portal is that Virginia Tech will need to strengthen its secondary for the 2025 season. Key players such as Dorian Strong, Mansoor Delane, and Mose Phillips have all departed—Strong is heading to the NFL, Delane is transferring to LSU, and Phillips is moving to Missouri.

While the Hokies do have some promising young talent returning, it’s clear that they need to bolster their depth and experience through the transfer portal. By the 12th day of the portal being open, commitments have begun pouring in for head coach Brent Pry, and on Saturday night, they secured an underrated cornerback from East Carolina.

Isaiah Brown-Murray Commits to Virginia Tech

Isaiah Brown-Murray, a cornerback from East Carolina, committed to Virginia Tech on Saturday night. The 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back has two years of eligibility remaining. This season, Brown-Murray totaled 42 tackles, six passes defended, one fumble recovery, and one interception for the Pirates, who will face North Carolina State in the Go Bowling Military Bowl on December 28.

Earlier in the week, on Wednesday night, Clemson transfer safety Sherrod Covil Jr. became the Hokies’ first commitment through the portal for this cycle, coincidentally on the same day Brown-Murray visited Virginia Tech. A three-star recruit out of high school, Covil played over 1,200 snaps at Clemson, recording 69 tackles in his career.

According to 247Sports, Brown-Murray had several other offers, including from Louisville, Kansas, and Arkansas. He explained to the outlet why he chose Virginia Tech.

“It was the best situation for me,” Brown-Murray said. “I really loved Coach Cheetah and Coach Pry, and they made me feel like they can take my game to the next level.”

If he can indeed elevate his performance, both Virginia Tech and head coach Brent Pry will be very pleased with the addition.
