Nicholas Morrow is making his return to the Buffalo Bills after a brief departure, and his timing couldn’t be more critical. With injuries taking a toll on the linebacker group—Matt Milano (groin), Dorian Williams (elbow), and Baylon Spector (calf) all sidelined—Morrow’s return comes at a time when the Bills are shorthanded at linebacker.
Terrel Bernard is currently the only healthy linebacker on the roster, which means Morrow could see an increased role on defense during this “second” stint in Buffalo.
Morrow had spent most of the 2023 season with the Bills but was released earlier this month. After going unclaimed on waivers, he was initially set to audition for the Green Bay Packers, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. However, the Bills reached out with an offer to bring him back, which Morrow accepted.
The 28-year-old linebacker had previously started 29 games in the NFL, spending time with both the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles over the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He was primarily used on special teams in Buffalo, where he logged 182 special teams snaps in 11 games, one of the highest totals on the team. Morrow saw limited action on defense, with only 44 defensive snaps this season, but with the current injury situation in the linebacker room, he may be asked to contribute more on that side of the ball.
Given his experience and versatility, Morrow’s ability to step in and provide depth will be important for a Bills defense now operating with a depleted linebacker corps. How quickly he can ramp up to a larger role and contribute defensively will be a key storyline in the coming weeks.
