Yankees Sign Another Versatile Gold Glove Infielder to $60 Million Deal

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman openly acknowledges that his team is in need of an infielder.

It’s uncertain whether the Yankees will target a third baseman or a second baseman, but it’s evident that an upgrade in the infield is necessary.

The Yankees have reportedly pursued top-tier third basemen like Alex Bregman and Nolan Arenado. However, a Gold Glove second baseman could also address their infield needs effectively.

In 2024, Brendan Rodgers posted a .267 batting average with 13 home runs and 54 RBIs while playing for the Colorado Rockies. This marked the second-highest batting average of his career, trailing his personal best of .284, achieved in 2021, by 17 points.

Brendan Rodgers earned a Gold Glove at second base in 2021 with the Rockies, showcasing his exceptional defensive skills. While he’s primarily regarded as a defense-first player, he has shown the ability to contribute offensively by putting the ball in play when needed.

According to Baseball Savant, Brendan Rodgers’ expected home runs for 2024 were 12.7, suggesting that every home run he hit was well-earned, given his launch angle and exit velocity.

Brendan Rodgers is projected to sign a five-year contract valued at just over $56 million, with the potential to reach $60 million, which would raise the average annual value to $12 million.

The Yankees signing Brendan Rodgers makes perfect sense, as he would provide a solid defensive presence at second base. If Rodgers can maintain a batting average above .250 and slightly improve his RBI production, his contract would quickly prove to be a worthwhile investment.
