While no one can truly replace Lamar Jackson, the Buffalo Bills are doing their best to replicate what they’ll face when Jackson and the Ravens come to town for Sunday night’s AFC divisional round showdown.
To assist in this preparation, the Bills have signed Anthony Brown, a three-year veteran quarterback who entered the NFL with the Ravens in 2022. Brown appeared in two games that season, throwing for 302 yards with two interceptions and completing just 44.9% of his passes. Like Jackson, Brown is known for his mobility and ability to make plays on the move, which is the key reason why Bills head coach Sean McDermott decided to bring him in.
“If you just put a mobile player back there when you’re practicing scrambles or the quarterback run game, the defense knows it’s one of those plays,” McDermott explained. “If you swap out one of our regular quarterbacks for a mobile player, they can easily recognize it.
“To make it more authentic, what Anthony brings is the ability to do both—he can throw and he can run. That gives us a more genuine look. Whether he’s handing the ball off, dropping back, or running some of the concepts that Lamar uses, it provides a more accurate simulation.”
