BALTIMORE — Orioles second baseman Jorge Mateo avoided an arbitration hearing by reaching a one-year agreement worth $3.55 million.
The contract includes a team option for 2026 valued at $5.5 million, which could increase by $500,000 based on his plate appearances in 2025. Mateo could earn an additional $125,000 for each of the following plate appearance milestones: 460, 480, 500, and 520.
Mateo had requested $4 million, while the Orioles had offered $3.1 million when the two sides exchanged figures. Last season, he posted a .229 batting average with five home runs, 18 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases.
