Approved In: White Sox Agree To Contract With Ex-Nationals, Pirates Outfielder With Both Conditions

Michael A. Taylor will make $1.95 million in 2025.

According to sources, the Chicago White Sox have reached an agreement with experienced outfielder Michael A. Taylor, as reported by FanSided’s Robert Murray.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported that the contract is valued at $1.95 million for one year, including performance bonuses.

Taylor joins the White Sox after a season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he played 113 games, batting .193 with a .543 OPS and stealing 12 bases. His 50 wRC+ ranked third-lowest in the majors among players with at least 300 plate appearances. His new teammate, Brandon Drury, was one of the two players ahead of him.

The Pirates released Taylor in September, and over his career, he has also played for the Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, and Washington Nationals.

Though Taylor’s 11-year career has been marked by struggles at the plate, with a career OPS+ of 80 and an on-base percentage of just .290, he remains valuable as a defender. He has a 30% career strikeout rate, which climbed to 35% last season, and his ISO dipped to a career-low .097. However, his true strength lies in his defense. Since 2015, his first full season, he has saved 78 defensive runs in centerfield, ranking third among all players during that period. His 62 outs above average are the sixth-best in that span.
